In order to launch a product into the market it is very critical that the product be compliant with the market standard whether to be manufactured or sold in this intended market. In other words, the earlier the compliance built-in is the better! At Jazri Studio we did this many times while designing these products.
In this article, you will be introduced to the reason behind the importance of regulatory compliance, its definition, and some types of most used certificates that are required to launch a product.
What is regulatory compliance?
In simple words, it means (there is evidence that the product meets the essential requirements) in the form of directives, regulations, and harmonized standards. Simply put, regulatory compliance is when a product follows country, state, federal, and international laws, and regulations relevant to its industry.
It is important to mention that regulatory compliance is an (constantly evolving process) and it differs from one industry to another. Also (proper management and process) eliminates undesired delays, reduces cost, and enables risks mitigation.
Why is regulatory compliance important?
What matters the most is the consumer; thus product standard is (the highest and surest guarantee and safeguard for the efficiency of a product). Therefore, when a product gets approved by these standards, it can then be manufactured or sold in the market.
In results, regulations are designed to ensure safety, compatibility, and consistency of a product. So, if you want to manufacture or sell a product in the market the product must meet a standard, and it has to pass tests that demonstrate it complies with certain safety and quality requirements. Below we will explore the most often-required product certificates.
Examples of most often-required types of product standards
As we mentioned earlier, standard gives product users the confidence they need to buy certain products. Most often-required types of product certification are CE marking, FDA, FCC, RoHS, CB and EMC.
Further details about the most often-required types of product standards
CE marking is an administrative marking with which the manufacturer or importer affirms its conformity with European health, safety, and environmental protection standards for products sold within the European Economic Area (EEA).
FCC marking is an independent agency of the United States government that regulates communications by radio, television, wire, satellite, and cable across the United States.
RoHS marking for Restriction of Hazardous Substances. RoHS, also known as Directive 2002/95/EC, originated in the European Union and restricts the use of specific hazardous materials found in electrical and electronic products (known as EEE).
FDA marking is a federal agency of the Department of Health and Human Services. The FDA is responsible for protecting and promoting public health through the control and supervision of food safety, tobacco products, dietary supplements, prescription and over-the-counter pharmaceutical drugs (medications), vaccines, biopharmaceuticals, blood transfusions, medical devices, electromagnetic radiation emitting devices (ERED), cosmetics, animal foods & feed and veterinary products.
Conclusion
We can conclude that, the more proper management and process of applying regulatory compliance the better! It will save time and money and enable risk mitigation. In addition, we knew that a product cannot be launched without being compliant with different types of market standards relevant to the product industry.
